Yes, todays post is about a pregnant dog. I now it doesn’t sound all the amazing, or wedding related, but the story truly is an incredible one and KMP is a strong supportivor in animal rights and protection of animals.
The source of this story comes from a wonderful member of weddingbee.com. Her name was serabell, and she is a savor. The story began three weeks ago, as serabell causiously posts a message on the weddingbee forums…
“I’m house-sitting a dog & started March 21st. She was skinny then, but I was told she was not being fed. I’ve noticed she’s gained a bit of weight, I feed her California Natural puppy food & only what the chart on the back says for her age/weight.
She’s been eating A LOT of grass recently. She’s kinda always done this since I got her, a little here & there, but now its like she’s making a meal of it. She never throws it up thou.”
Here is sweet Piddles.
As you see, in the right she is thin and cute as a button. But slowly you start to see the pregnancy signs. As the post continues, Serabell gets advice for many bee members that say she is surely pregnant.. so the wait begins..
She writes about 4 hours later:
“So I had written quite a bit but I left the computer for like 2 seconds & got logged out so I lost everything. To sum it up…
Yea I’m still waiting for the owner, I thought I had like another week or 2 before she had the pups, so figured I could still get in to the vet early next week & be ok, if the owner ok’d it.
Tonight she dropped 1/2 a degree in her temp, is breathing semi-heavily, panting, & acting odd. She threw up last night. She ran away from me when I let her out (luckily I only had to run 1 block because she runs slower now). It looked like she was trying to hide, which is also a sign. My SIL came over & says she felt a pup in the mom’s tummy. There’s no way she could not be prego. So she may be having pups tonight or tomorrow!”
At this point, there are a lot of bees that are following the thread and waiting to see these darlings (we assume they are darling cause what puppy isn’t?). Three days goes by..
“I’m going crazy! No pups! The past 2 or 3 nights she’s acting like she was going to have them. During the day she acts “normal” but at night she keeps panting & acting uncomfortable & she has started “nesting” & 2 nights ago she tried to “hide” by running off into a bushy area. I would have bet you $10 she was going to have them 2 nights ago & then I would’ve bet you again that she would’ve had them last night. I even set my alarm to wake me up. But nope, she’s being kinda annoying (by not having them)
. I looked it up online & a few sites say that its kinda common for it to “build up”, but I do know if her temp drops to 98 & she doesn’t have them within 24 hours, than I’m taking her to the vet – owner ok’d or not.”
Everyone at this point is glued to their computer, waiting for the arrival of these pups. Serabell does an amazing job of keeping everyone up to date on whats going on and the steps she’s taking to prepare for there arrival. Then about 7 hours later this post appears…
“She’s having pups RIGHT now. Well, she’s had about 7 so far. What sucked was DH & I went to the store for some food, then drove around town trying to find a kiddie pool. Nobody sells these around here
! By the time we got home, she already had like 3 pups! I thought she was done & so I let her out to pee & she had a pup in the lawn! She’s pushing so I’m sure #8 will be here soon. She’s done everything herself, except I had to cut 1 umbilical cord (maybe TMI) & its pretty messy but everything’s good! Will post pics soon, probably tomorrow morning
”
Piddles ended up having 10 healthy puppies! There was a little complication but everything ended up perfect.
They are so precious! Serabell deserves a medal for her wonderful care and love that she had for Piddles and her puppies.
At this time KMP would like to entend a warm thank you and appreciation of the care she took in not only the puppies, but in keeping her bees well informed as we all felt like we were on this journey together with her. As a special thanks KMP is offering a FREE THANK YOU CARD DESIGN to her wedding thank yous, for everything she did for Piddles and keeping the members informed on weddingbee. KMP strongly supports people taking care and loving animals. We proudly reward those who give themselves to help other who cannot help themselves.
You’re an amazing person Serabell! Congratulations and thanks for sharing your story!
